Set up email in Outlook for Windows (new version)

Set up your email account in the new version of Outlook for Windows using IMAP. Follow these steps to enter your email address, password, and incoming and outgoing mail server settings.

Do you want to send and receive email using the new version of Outlook for Windows? This guide explains step by step how to add an IMAP email account. You can follow these instructions whether you are setting up your first email account or adding an additional account to Outlook.

Add an email account to Outlook for Windows

  1. Open Outlook for Windows.

If no email account has been set up yet, Outlook will automatically ask you to enter an email address. Enter your full email address and select Continue.

  2. If you already have an email account in Outlook, select the Settings gear icon in the upper-right corner.

  3. In Settings, go to Accounts and then Your accounts. Under Email accounts, select Add Account.

  4. Enter the full email address you want to add and select Continue.

  5. Enter the password for your email account. If Outlook does not automatically detect the correct settings, open the additional settings so you can manually enter the IMAP and SMTP server details.

  6. Enter the following settings for incoming email:

    • IMAP server: mail.recra.net

    • Port: 993

    • Secure connection type: SSL/TLS

    • Use recommended settings: enabled

  7. Enter the following settings for outgoing email:

    • SMTP username: your full email address

    • SMTP password: the password for your email account

    • SMTP server: mail.recra.net

    • Port: 465

    • Secure connection type: SSL/TLS

  8. Check that your email address, password, incoming server, outgoing server, ports, and security settings have been entered correctly. Select Continue to proceed with the setup.

  9. Outlook will now configure the email account. Wait until the setup process has been completed.

Once the account has been added successfully, you can use Outlook to send and receive email. Outlook may send a test message after the setup to verify that the account is working correctly.

If you are adding an existing email account, it may take some time for Outlook to synchronize all existing messages and folders with the mail server.
