Cancellation insurance provides guests with additional protection in case of unexpected cancellations. You can add the insurance during the reservation process or activate it later for an existing reservation.
In this article, you'll learn how to add cancellation insurance and when it needs to be manually recalculated. If you have not yet configured cancellation insurance, please refer to our article Setting up cancellation insurance.
Adding cancellation insurance when creating a reservation
When creating a new reservation, you can add cancellation insurance immediately.
Create a new reservation.
In Step 2: Party, options and surcharges, locate the 'Add cancellation insurance' option.
Enable the checkbox.
Complete the reservation process.
The cancellation insurance will then be added directly to the reservation.
Adding cancellation insurance to an existing reservation
Was cancellation insurance not added during the booking process? If so, it can still be activated afterwards. Guests may also be able to add the insurance themselves through the guest portal, if this feature is enabled.
To add cancellation insurance to an existing reservation:
Open the reservation.
Locate the Cancellation Insurance setting.
Change the value from 'No' to 'Yes'.
Save the changes.
The cancellation insurance will now be added to the reservation.
Recalculating cancellation insurance after reservation changes
When a reservation is modified, the cancellation insurance premium is not automatically recalculated. This is intentional, as recalculation is not desirable in every situation.
Recalculate the cancellation insurance when changes affect the premium amount, for example:
A change to the rental amount
A change to the length of stay
Adding or removing items that are included in the premium calculation
Manual recalculation
Open the reservation.
Click Recalculate.
Review the updated premium amount.
Save the changes if necessary.
Important: without a manual recalculation, the original premium amount will remain active, even if the reservation has been changed.
