Airbnb offers the option to automatically pass on tourist tax (City Tax) to guests. Because this feature has been abused in the past, Airbnb has imposed additional conditions on its use.
Do you use the Airbnb integration via the channel manager (Beds24)? If so, it’s important that both Airbnb and Beds24 are configured correctly. In this article, you’ll learn which settings are required and what to check if the tourist tax is missing from a reservation.
Steps and requirements for setting up tourist tax
Airbnb’s information requirements
Airbnb requires detailed information about your listing in order to charge tourist tax. This includes providing a Business Tax ID or an Accommodations Tax Registration Number.
This information must be entered in the Taxes section under Pricing and Availability in your Airbnb listing.
Integration via the channel manager
Our booking system, integrated with Airbnb via Beds24, allows you to enable the tourist tax per listing and enter a specific amount. More information on this can be found in our article Connect surcharges in the channel manager.
Actions for missing tourist tax in reservations
Check received reservations
For existing Airbnb reservations where tourist tax has not been charged, check the price breakdown to ensure that “Taxes” is included.
If tourist tax is missing, contact the guest in question to find an appropriate solution.
Update your Airbnb listings
Go to the Taxes section under Pricing and Availability in your Airbnb listings to ensure that all required information is filled in correctly. Refer to Airbnb’s help section on adding “Taxes” for detailed instructions.
Add a Permit ID in Beds24
Beds24 requires that a Permit ID, equivalent to the Business Tax ID in the Netherlands, be added for each listing. You can find this ID on your tax registration documents.
